Carina Traberg

Brief Statement

At the moment I am working with paper – photo and card collages describing a different kind of reality. One which may seem real but isn't, one that is on the edge between reality and imagination.
I work with abstracting and extending the two-dimensional, inspired by Minimalism and also Ottoman Miniature paintings in that the image is created without an illusion of a third dimension.

Carina Traberg - Cityscapes
The series of works called ‘Cityscapes’ is based on a description of a reality that doesn't exist, and despite the fact that it looks real, it is a simulation. I make 3D model modules from photographs cardboard and then I stage a photographic simulation of a real city. By investigating the image further, one will notice this. In these works I also play with scale; I reduce the size of something, which is very large, a city of skyscrapers in this case to a few centimetres in order to investigate how the body relates to things that are very out of proportion. One of the models is so small that you, when standing in front of it, have to adjust your vision to see all the details.
