Statement
This body of work, taken in its entirety, seeks to reveal an emotional side of the artist, and of ourselves, which is normally well hidden from the view of others. Each of these images, in fact, portrays a shade of a universal facet of personality that most of us would never choose to show. Indeed, the everyday sensations of entrapment and isolation, evoked here, are by their essence impossible to truly share, as it is the very presence of other perspectives, and the core nature of the individual's relationship with the mass of others, that bring them into existence.
This collection of photographs, ostensibly featuring a number of female forms, actually exposes far more of the artist than the subjects. In this way, the images could be interpreted as a kind of surrogate self-portraiture. In showing her isolated self in the form of others, silent behind glass, the insular and unknowable feelings of one person become an all-inclusive comment upon everyone.
Despite the model appearing submersed, water was only ever poured onto the glass. The underwater appearance of the images was enhanced by natural light creating shadows and reflections onto the model, as well as illuminating the water droplets onto the glass upper surface. Having the image backlit compliments the aesthetics beautifully, resulting in a striking and bold set of photographs
