NAME Becky Kidner

Statement

My work incorporates a vast array of different subjects, but my biggest influences in my life and work come from living in the city, and movies.

My ongoing drawing project is the main focus of my work. I rigorously document every single day in a small book of drawings, the content of these drawings ranging from daily personal events, to larger scale global issues such as political and world events. I document every film I’ve seen, television show watched, and things I have drank or eaten. I see this project as being one which I will see through indefinitely. The more I go on doing it the bigger body of work it becomes. It creates not only a personal portrait of myself, but on a grander scale it is also portraying what it is like living in the world right now and will stand in future years as a testament of our times.

Another aspect of my work is the paintings I do. I paint portraits of people I admire- for example Jerry Seinfeld and David Cronenberg. I see these portraits as being tributes to those people that mean a lot to me. I have a large list of heroes, and I am on a mission to paint them all.

I make and distribute a small fanzine entitled ‘Third Eye’. It is mostly filled with my own ramblings on various subjects. I also include contributions from friends and people I have met through putting it third eye out there. It all comes together in photocopied bundles stapled together in small book form.
