My work involves mainly three techniques which is Photography, digitally
manipulating pictures on Photoshop, then painting these onto canvas.
Mostly I paint figurative portraits and mainly in a black and white style with
different tones of greys, I think that these colours work really well with this
style of painting, I use acrylic on canvas for the materials and techniques
used for this. I like my artwork to be aesthetic and harmonious and also like
the abstract relationships with the form and colour, I could say that I like my
work to be pleasing to the eye, like the look of it and understand colour
relationships that invoke feelings. I like to paint something that relates to
me rather than an instinct, my motivation usually comes from the artists Andy Warhol.

My latest work of my Nan and granddad has their full figure in the painting and they are life size, it also has text in this painting and this later work has become more painterly rather than just blocks of tone, this is quite different from my previous work. I usually like to paint with acrylic paints on canvas the reason I like to use acrylic paints is because I like the finish you get with this, it’s almost like a shiny finish.
My Nan and Granddad have both sadly passed away so this piece is a Memorializing to me and my family. The text is a nursery rhyme that they used to sing to all the Grandchildren to send us off to sleep when we was little, it is the nursery rhyme ‘you are my sunshine’ and their image is of when they got married it is in World War 2 and this shows in the picture because what my Granddad is wearing. This also places the image and a message in time historical and how time affects life and people with the loss of loved ones, I am trying to send this message to the viewer so they can look at this painting and it could bring back memories of their Nan and Granddad or someone they loved and were close to them that they have lost.
