It is important to me that I explore ways in which paint can reveal or arouse
some element within the subject. It is through the drawing and painting processes
from which I can transform the subject and retrieve narratives. I am interested
in how our environment can consume and digest us, and how gestures and everyday
scenes can be isolated, slowed down and opened up to different interpretations
of stories. I use subjects such as hunting, domestic landscapes and rural
scenes, the ornamental and methods of preservation to express what interests
me about human nature and the dichotomies inherent to both the mind and the
physical external environment.
Since September 2005, I have been making work outside of my home country, most recently at residencies in Greenland, Iceland, Cyprus and Norway.
