Personal Statement

I want to paint big bold paintings that attract the viewer through their scale and complexity, which gradually transforms into recognizable views of the world as we know, and see it.

I am regularly drawn by routine repetition and patterns that occur within the everyday; and my work is a reflection of this. My paintings of simple abstract images and shapes are representations of overlooked situa-tions that can be found all around us.

The patterns that occur are not there by accident - they are worked out in systematic formulas that create the final images. I also undertake the concepts that my pieces entail of routine and repetition, to the complete my paintings -simple patterns formed by complex systems.

My work is a continuing investigation into the development of this.

Current and past experience
In December 2006 I was one of six undergraduate and postgraduate students who was invited to submit a piece of art for a commission at the Celtic Manor Hotel, Newport.

I am exhibiting in the final degree show with my fellow students at Newport University, The Washington Gallery, Penarth and the Trumen Brewery, Brick Lane, London. I am organising our exhibition at the Washington Gallery where I am currently on a work experience placement as a Gallery Assistant.

I also assisted as a volunteer for some selective weeks in March ‘07’ for a community arts project at the Llaned-eyrn shopping center in Cardiff.

I worked alongside the artist Lee Campbell in which part of my role was meeting members of the local community and encouraging them to get involved with and helping them create pieces of art. These will be displayed within the shopping center for seventeen weeks for the public to view.

In April 2007 I was a finalist for the Mercury Music Prize Art Competition and I exhibited the piece 1m digital version of 'Heidenheim Drive' at The Hospital in Covent Garden with other finalists.

The original painting of this work is hanging in the main corridor of Newport University.
