Ian Penna's idea of articulating forms through materials and their physical properties becomes an investigative way of questioning how form, rather than shape can be achieved.
When manipulating recognizable surfaces, materials and forms, as well as combining processes from architecture, sculpture and painting, the work produced evolves towards Formalist propositions by necessity which are abstract, promoting some value of aesthetics.
