Statement
The drawings are from my London Skies series, they focus on the sky beyond
the physical limits of the city. In discovering these glimpses of sky we take
on the role of voyeur. So often hidden, we seek out the environment obscured
from us, from a concealed space at street level or below.
My work explores the changing nature of particular spaces around London.
There is an accumulation of time in a drawing which for my work is necessary
to articulate the idea that a space has no fixed identity. I return several
times to a space to witness the transformation caused by different light,
mood and atmosphere, each new impression pushing and pulling with previous
ones to build an accumulative image of the space.
The empty office series of etchings developed from my late night photography
projects, I am drawn to the stillness of the scenes, activity has shifted
elsewhere, separated from their function they take on a melancholic feel with
their sense of loss.
