I have just completed a BA (Hons) Degree in Fine Art, studying at University
of Wales Institute Cardiff. Throughout the three year programme, my work has
developed and progressed rapidly, and at the moment I am pleased with where
I am as a young emerging artist.
The key theme of my work at the moment is the study of a place, non-places
and space. Trying to develop on ideas that Marc Auge wrote in ‘Non-Places’,
by looking mainly at civic spaces and the key elements within.
Drawing, collage, photography, other artists and experimentation, all help
me formulate my ideas and have a vital role in my practise. I find drawing
a very important part in my practise and is the underlying factor of many
of my paintings.
A lot of my work is within, or has its origin within a museum space. The reasoning
behind this is that a museum or gallery is the artists bed for inspiration,
and has a key role to play for and with artists. I have taken the museum space,
a space that is rich in history and prestige, and turned it into a futuristic,
isolated, violent space. Questioning the place turning to a space.
