<%@LANGUAGE="JAVASCRIPT" CODEPAGE="1252"%> 5 Questions for Michael
1. The piece 'come out, come out wherever you are' manipulates the human perception. Where normally we would see the fragmented arrangement of abstracted shaped greens, browns and beige in the camouflage. We see the placement of army men scattered throughout, which importantly links material association with theme. Is the manipulation of the viewer's perception an idea you want to work towards?

Yes it is. I feel it is very important for the viewer to interact with the work and actually get them to look deeper into it, to see the true meaning. I also like to play with the idea through the title of the work, so that it gets the viewer to think about the work and to get them to look into the picture.

2. With the piece 'moon landing' are you suggesting the rust associates with the past achievement of landing on the moon, being that the rust represents passing of time?

The rust does represent the passing of time as the work is continuing to rust all the time, like the memory of the moon landing.

3. What other material types do you think you will work with and how will they associate with the images they encompass in your next work?

I am thinking of maybe using velvet for my next piece as this has a connection with royalty, as it is a beautiful and rich material. The colour of the velvet will be very important, so it will be a red or purple and the image will be a royal palace.

4. Which Artists are you influenced by?

I am influenced by a number of artists, such as Andy Warhol, particularly his camouflage portraits, which gave me the idea of using camouflage in my work. Also Julian Schnabel, as he uses a variety of materials and textures to paint on top of, such as velvet.

5. Have you considered the Duchampian principle of 'the object is the art' and perhaps having a camouflage jacket as the work with the manipulation of army men seamlessly concealed?

I have considered actually putting the design onto an Army T-Shirt, which would create a much more striking impression to a viewer, as it would have the realistic connection with the object.
